It has been seven long years since my dad left this world, and now, the extraordinary woman who filled my life with love and joy has also slipped away from me.
No matter how much we try to brace ourselves for the loss of those we cherish, nothing can truly prepare our hearts for the soul-crushing blow of saying goodbye forever. Just three short weeks ago, we were together, delighting in the joyful moments of life, laughing as we watched “Strictly,” debating about which dancers stole our hearts.
And weeks before that, we were lost in nostalgia, sifting through old photographs that captured our shared laughter and the delight of our slightly outdated fashion choices. Oh, how we laughed together! I still can’t help but remember that unforgettable New Year’s outing, or our hilarious journey to Downtown, where I somehow got lost amidst all the fun.
Tonight, I light a candle in honour of the beautiful soul that was Marion de Souza. May you find rest in the arms of God, who surely welcomes you with the same warmth you brought to my life. Please give my love to Dad and Jessie—let them know how much I miss them. My heart aches with the weight of your absence. You were a treasure in my life, and the love we shared will forever be etched in my soul.
