I can recall learning to touch type on one of these typewriters only a few years ago. 

I learned to touch type on our family typewriter. It was an old Imperial model, which required frequent changes of the ribbon. If you wanted a copy of your letters, you would use carbon paper. Making a mistake was quite challenging; correction involved using a typewriter rubber, which left small smudges on the page, or Tippex, which left white ridges as it dried.

It is remarkable how much technology has advanced since then.

Technology: We initially found electric typewriters impressive, then moved on to word processors, and later experienced significant excitement with the advent of personal computers. What next one wonders? 🙂
