  • Memory Lane

    Aug 25th, 2024

Today I visited an elderly member of my family (95 yrs old). I played some 40’s to 50’s songs for her to listen to. It was nice to take her down memory lane. She loved the songs.  It reminded her of her youth. 🙂

Songs that “fire the waf” might be referring to patriotic or motivational songs that were used to inspire and rally troops, as well as to boost morale on the home front during times of war. These songs often emphasize themes of courage, sacrifice, and national pride. Here are some examples across different conflicts.

These songs not only provided comfort and inspiration to those involved in the wars but have also endured as reminders of the emotional and cultural impact of these conflicts.

I’m a huge fan of the film #LaLaLand I loved the film so much. The film reminds me a little of “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.”

This was the very first song I sang on #Smule. 🙂

  • Nurturing Instincts :)

    Aug 24th, 2024

    I love this photograph.

Me with my youngest sister Charmaine’s daughter (my niece). All of the old and happy memories, with my own daughters, came flooding back.

Nurturing a child involves a combination of love, support, guidance, and creating an environment that fosters their emotional, intellectual, and physical development.

Nurturing a child is a continuous process that requires patience, love, and adaptability. Every child is unique, so it’s important to tailor your nurturing approach to their individual needs and personality.

  • “Sherwood”

    Aug 23rd, 2024

I have watched a few episodes of Sherwood this evening, particularly as the new series begins this coming Sunday.

Now this is the best of British #ILove

“Sherwood” is a British drama television series created by James Graham. It first aired on BBC One in June 2022. The show is a crime drama that weaves together a fictional murder mystery with real-life political and social issues, particularly those related to the miners’ strikes in the UK during the 1980s.

    Plot Overview

The drama is set in a small former mining village in Nottinghamshire, England, and follows the investigation into two shocking murders that rock the community. The crimes stir up old wounds related to the 1984-85 miners’ strike, which had deeply divided the community between those who went on strike and those who continued to work, often referred to as “scabs.” As the police investigate the murders, long-buried secrets and resentments resurface, complicating the investigation and exposing the lingering impact of the strike on the community.

    Cast

    • David Morrissey as DCS Ian St. Clair: A seasoned detective with deep roots in the community, tasked with solving the murders.
    • Lesley Manville as Julie Jackson: A local woman whose family is deeply involved in the community’s tensions.
    • Robert Glenister as DI Kevin Salisbury: A detective from London with a past connected to the miners’ strike.
    • Joanne Froggatt as Sarah Vincent: A woman caught between the divided factions of the community.
    • Alun Armstrong as Gary Jackson: A staunch union supporter and ex-miner.

    Themes

“Sherwood” explores themes of community, loyalty, and the long-term impact of political decisions on individuals and families. It delves into how history and old conflicts continue to shape the present, particularly in areas affected by industrial decline. The series is not just a whodunit but a deep exploration of the scars left by one of the most contentious periods in recent British history.

    Reception

The series was well-received by critics for its strong performances, particularly by Morrissey and Manville, and for its thoughtful handling of complex social and political issues. It was praised for being both a compelling thriller and a poignant social commentary. The series’ success led to the commissioning of a second season, further expanding on the story and its characters.

“Sherwood” stands out as a powerful drama that combines mystery with a meaningful exploration of history, making it a notable entry in contemporary British television.
